Pai Gow Poker combines elements of the ancient Chinese game of Pai Gow with American poker. Players create two poker hands from seven cards: a five-card "high" hand and a two-card "low" hand. The five-card hand must rank higher than the two-card hand, and both hands must beat the dealer's corresponding hands to win.

How to Play

  1. Select a chip value and place your bet
  2. Click "Deal" to receive seven cards
  3. Select two cards for your low hand (the remaining five will form your high hand)
  4. Click "Set Hand" to confirm your selection, or "Auto Set" to let the computer arrange your hand according to house way
  5. The dealer will then set their hand according to house way
  6. Your hands are compared to the dealer's corresponding hands
  7. To win, both of your hands must beat the dealer's hands
  8. If one hand wins and one loses, it's a push (tie)
  9. If both hands lose, you lose your bet
  10. If both hands tie, the dealer wins

Five-Card Hand Rankings

  1. Royal Flush
  2. Straight Flush
  3. Four of a Kind
  4. Full House
  5. Flush
  6. Straight
  7. Three of a Kind
  8. Two Pair
  9. One Pair
  10. High Card

Two-Card Hand Rankings

  1. Pair
  2. High Card

Card Values

  • Cards 2-10 are worth their face value
  • Jack = 11, Queen = 12, King = 13
  • Ace = 14 (highest card)
  • Joker can be used to complete a straight or flush, otherwise counts as an Ace

Setting Your Hand

  • Your five-card hand MUST rank higher than your two-card hand
  • If both hands have the same rank (e.g., both are pairs), the five-card hand must have a higher pair
  • If you set your hand incorrectly, you'll receive an error message
  • The "Auto Set" button will arrange your hand according to house way rules

House Way Rules

The dealer must set their hand according to a predetermined set of rules called the "house way." Some key house way rules include:

  • With no pair, put the highest card in the five-card hand and the next two highest in the two-card hand
  • With one pair, place the pair in the five-card hand
  • With two pairs, split them if they're both high pairs (10s or better) and you have a King or better for the low hand
  • With three pairs, place the highest pair in the two-card hand
  • With three of a kind, keep them together except for Aces (split Aces)
  • With a full house, split it unless you have another pair for the two-card hand

Payouts

  • Win: 1:1 (minus 5% commission)
  • Push: Your bet is returned
  • Loss: You lose your bet

Strategy Tips

  • Always set your hands so the five-card hand ranks higher than the two-card hand
  • When in doubt, use the "Auto Set" button to arrange your hand according to house way
  • With one pair, always keep it in the five-card hand
  • With two pairs, keep them in the five-card hand unless they're both high pairs
  • With a straight or flush and a pair, keep the straight or flush in the five-card hand
  • With two pairs and an Ace, put the Ace with the lower pair in the two-card hand
  • The house edge in Pai Gow Poker is relatively low, making it a good game for players who want to extend their playing time
